"The Expendables" Take No. 1 Spot At Box Office With $17 Million

The ExpendablesSylvester Stallone’s latest movie, "The Expendables", debuted on top of the box office for the second weekend in a row. "The Expendables" earned an estimated $16.5 million this weekend; bringing the cumulative total to about $65 million.

"The Expendables" is about a group of highly skilled mercenaries, tasked with a mission to assassinate a Latin American dictator.

"Vampires Suck" the cheapy Twilight spoof came in second this weekend, earning an estimated $12.2 million in its opening week from 3,233 theaters.

"Shrek Forever After" Beats "Iron Man 2" And Tops The Box Office

Shrek Forever After"Shrek Forever After" made its way to the top spot with $70.8M in its opening weekend. The animated fantasy movie played in only 4,359 theaters on its opening day in the United States, grossing an estimated $20,750,000.

Anne Globe, head of worldwide marketing for DreamWorks Animation, said they were happy with the movie's opening since it debuted at No.1 and also had the fourth best opening for an animated movie behind "Shrek the Third", "Shrek 2", and "The Simpsons Movie".

"Shrek Forever After" the fourth and final installment in the Shrek movie series, was released on May 21, 2010 in the United States in 3-D and IMAX 3-D theaters.

The superhero movie "Iron Man 2" dropped to No. 2 after two weeks on top. The movie pulled in $26.4M this week with a 49 percent decrease from last week's numbers.

Freddy Krueger stalks the dreams of a group of suburban high-schoolers and gains access to them through their dreams. They discover that they all share a common link from their childhood; they were all physically and sexually abused by Freddy who was a child killer called "The Springwood Slasher" which made the outraged parents took justice into their own hands by setting him on fire. His soul starts to take revenge and causes malicious, horrific havoc on the teenagers who live on Elm Street.

A Nightmare on Elm Street was released in the United States on April 30, 2010. It made $1.6 million from midnight showings on Thursday night from 1,000 theaters, a new record Nightmare on Elm Street has set for midnight openings for a horror movie, which was previously held by the Friday the 13th remake in 2009 that grossed $1 million.

Kick-Ass attracts the attention of the fearless and highly-trained crime-fighting duo of Big Daddy (Nicolas Cage) and his daughter, Hit-Girl (Chloë Grace Moretz) who are on a mission to take down the criminal empire of local Mafioso, Frank D’Amico (Mark Strong).

The movie was directed by Matthew Vaughn, who co-wrote the screenplay with Jane Goldman. The comic was written by Mark Millar and illustrated by John Romita, Jr.

The story takes place in a mythical Viking world where a hapless young Viking named "Hiccup" aspires to follow his tribe's tradition of becoming a dragon slayer. After finally capturing his first dragon (Toothless), and with his chance at finally gaining the tribe's acceptance, he finds that he no longer has the desire to kill it and instead befriends it.

The movie was directed by Chris Sanders and Dean DeBlois. It stars the voice talents of Jay Baruchel (Hiccup), America Ferrera (Astrid), Gerard Butler (Stoick), Craig Ferguson (Gobber), Jonah Hill (Snotlout), Christopher Mintz-Plasse (Fishlegs), Kristen Wiig (Ruffnut) and T.J. Miller (Tuffnut).

How to Train Your Dragon was released on March 26, 2010 by DreamWorks Animation and topped the North American box office in its first weekend of release.
